Our Mission

Main Plaza links government, culture, business, and San Antonio’s spiritual heart, San Fernando Cathedral, all in one communal space, thus creating a thriving city center. Charged with creating a community atmosphere that attracts local residents and visitors, Main Plaza Conservancy advances the history and culture of our Plaza, in the Heart of the City, by engaging the community through a living, visual, and generational gathering place.

The Monarch butterfly holds special meaning, as its annual migration to Mexico coincides with Día de los Muertos. The butterflies represent the souls of the departed returning to visit loved ones.

In celebration of this tradition, Main Plaza will transform into a community ofrenda, where printed butterflies featuring names of loved ones to fly through our trees.

Step 1 : Let us know whose name you would like on the butterfly

Step 2: Complete a small donation of $5 which helps us offset the cost of supplies as we build out this community-led installation.
